To me, Standard four is a basis upon how teachers should facilitate their learning environments. By
displaying warm nurturing interactions with each child and using effective strategies & tools for early education I can provide the children with successful learning. I will continue to use broad repertoire of developmentally appropriate teaching/learning approaches and reflect on my own practice to promote positive outcomes for each child.
For key element 4A I chose my observation hours I had to complete for CHLD DV 259-1 Practicum In Pre-School. I observed the children create crafts, build rocket ships with blocks, pretend to cook meals, and so much more. During this time I learned and created a bond with the students, which demonstrates that I have displayed warm nurturing interactions with each child and I understand that this is one of the many fundamentals in which their successful learning is based upon. In the future, I will be able to use this knowledge when interacting with my future students.
For key element 4B I chose a reflective journal I wrote for CHLD DV 107 Health Safety And Nutrition. I
had to read the textbook and pick a topic on which I was interested and relate it to my life and or job.
In writing this reflection paper I discussed developmentally appropriate practices, constructing a proper
learning environment, and approaches I took to providing a positive foundation for children's early
development. Because I discussed these topics in the paper, it supports that I do know & understand
effective strategies & tools for early education. In the future, I can continue to use this in constructing
my lesson plans and curriculum.
For key element 4C I chose a philosophy paper I wrote for CHLD DV 120 Intro To Early Childhood
Education Group Care which describes what my basic principles and concepts of a proper learning
environment were. I had to construct a philosophy that I felt would describe my beliefs and interests as
well as constructive. When coming up with the philosophy itself I had to keep in mind the core principles
of a quality daycare setting and by doing so I used a broad repertoire of developmentally appropriate
teaching/learning approaches. In the future, I will continue to embody my philosophy in every way by
using many developmentally appropriate approaches to learning.
For key element 4D I chose a reflective journal I wrote for CHLD DV 107 Health Safety And Nutrition.

job. In writing this reflection paper I discussed developmentally appropriate practices, constructing a
proper learning environment, and approaches I took to providing a positive foundation for children's
early development. In the last paragraph of the paper I applied what I had read in the textbook to what
practices I used at home with my son and also my "daycare children" which demonstrates that I can and
do reflect on my own practice to promote positive outcomes for each child. In the future, I will continue
to use my reflecting as an assessment tool to ensure that each child has the opportunity to develop and
at their own individual rate.
